Electric Stimulation Therapy & Ultrasound Therapy

Electric Stimulation Therapy

Electric stimulation therapy is a therapeutic treatment that applies electrical stimulation in treating muscle spasms and pain. It can help prevent atrophy and build strength in patients with injuries. It is also helpful in keeping muscles active especially after any muscular or back injury.

Interferential current is a form of Electric stimulation therapy. It is used by chiropractors and physical therapists for the purpose of decreasing inflammation and swelling of affected tissues. This treatment has also shown positive effects in improving symptoms of chronic muscle spasm and in reducing back pain.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is applied using the head of an ultrasound probe that is placed in direct contact with your skin with a transmission coupling gel.  When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves are a form of micro-massage that helps reduce swelling, increase blood flow, and decrease pain, stiffness, and spasms. Therapeutic ultrasound has been shown to cause increases in:

  • Healing Rates
  • Tissue Relaxation
  • Tissue Heating
  • Local Blood Flow
  • Scar Tissue Breakdown

The effect of ultrasound due to an increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation.
